Children of about 30 nationalities study in our school in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding where we are able to embrace and celebrate the culture and customs of other nations.
Our qualified EAL (English as an Additional Language) teachers help and support the teaching of children for whom English is not their native language. From Year 1 onwards we offer Russian language for native and non-native Russian speakers. This provides value for all involved, meeting the needs of our local families and making the community more accessible for our expatriate children. The children develop creativity and imagination, allowing them to realise their potential in all areas of learning.

We accept children from 3 - 7 years of age into our Early Years and Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1 (KS1) classes. The EYFS begin their work using the Development Matters and Early Learning Goals curriculum. The Key areas of; Communication and Understanding, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development form the basis of their initial education and is combined with more academic and creative areas of study. At 5 years of age the children enter Key Stage 1 and we apply the subjects of the National Curriculum of England and Wales. This continues to develop the individual’s skills through a broad and balanced curriculum tailored to meet the needs of our children. Employing topic based approaches to humanities and the sciences ensures a relevant and stimulating educational experience for all.

What Makes Us Special

We are a small school dedicated to the education of young children from 3-7 years of age. This affords us the capacity to care for and nurture children effectively as we guide them on the first steps of their educational path. All teaching is through English and is delivered by our qualified team of English native speaking teachers. During their time with us the emphasis is on developing very good levels of English langauge acquisition and developing the skills of reading, writing and mathematics so they can develop, adapt and apply these skills throughout their educational careers.

When families enter the school they know they are being welcomed to an amazing and unique place. Walking around the school and visiting classrooms you are greeted by happy, smiling faces and a sense of family belonging. This family atmosphere is at the heart of everything we do at BIS School 1, created largely by the positive, caring relationships developed between children and teachers, it is something that we pride ourselves on.

We celebrate our relationships with the families of School 1 and foster positive working partnerships with parents. This partnership is encouraged through our open invitation to parents to become part of their child’s educational life. Enjoying excellent relationships between home and school is paramount to our shared goal of: progress, development and success for all children. All of which is driven by strong communication and mutual respect. This helps to provide the best possible experience for the children. Our parents often take opportunities to come into school and be part of special events which occur throughout the year.

We provide a safe, secure and supportive environment in which every child is given the opportunity to flourish. Our role is to stimulate and encourage their development and enjoyment of learning through a variety of different activities and curriculum areas. The positive atmosphere we create is a result of the encouragement we give the children to be the best they can be, by taking care of themselves, their friends and their environment. We celebrate the successes of one another, nurture positive attitudes and develop high levels of confidence and self-esteem. This ethos is supported by a comprehensive rewards system designed and driven by the identifiable needs of the children in our care and the expectations of the school and it’s families.

During these formative years of a child’s development, we believe that instilling a love for learning is one of the most meaningful and powerful thing we can accomplish. We therefore, want the learning process to be one which is rich with enjoyment whilst understanding, valuing and emphasising the importance of academic achievement.

Children join us from 3 years old and by the time they leave us at the age of 7, they do so as confident, responsible young learners who are ready to embrace the next steps in their educational journey.

Clubs run daily after school from 15:20 – 16:15

We offer a range of clubs every day of the week, from ukelele to dancing to TaeKwon Do (to name but a few).
