On Monday our Year 9 pupils’ at School 3 were blessed with the opportunity to visit the Kinetica Centre at MISIS National University of Science and Technology. This was a very unique and prestigious opportunity for us, as the excursion was led by Vladimir Pirozhkov who is Head of Russia’s only engineering center for the design of a 3D aeromobile with vertical takeoff. Vladimir has a wealth of design experience and expertise across the globe; he was one of the creators that created a concept model of the returnable manned spacecraft Rus, presented at MAKS; and recently was the leader of the design team that developed the torch design for the Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relays of the XXII Winter Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi.
Our pupils’ had a tour of the university’s facilities, witnessing some state of the art and cutting edge technology including prototypes of vertical take-off vehicles, 3D printing machinery capable of printing to an accuracy of a micron (one-thousandth of a millimeter) and designs for modern locomotives currently being tested around Moscow.
Year 9 were able to interact in an engaging and productive visit and were able to ask questions directly to Mr Pirozhkov. This visit gave an insight into the works of a design team designing futuristic technology and products, university life and the facilities available in the internal university.
We thank Kinetica for such a unique and rewarding experience and we look forward to further collaboration and visits.
