From 16 to 24 October, Moscow will host SQUASH OPEN 2021, the largest squash tournament in the history of Russia. The event will bring together the best Russian players and representatives of 13 other countries. For the first time in the history of the Russian squash community, more than 250 sportsmen will take part in the tournament.
Squash originated from Harrow, the closed London school for boys, in the 19th century. While playing racquets, students had to wait a long time for their turn to go out on the court, and out of boredom they thought of hitting softer balls against the walls. This is how squash was invented.
Squash began to spread in Russia in 1989, when the first competition between amateurs of this sport was organised in Moscow. In 1991, the Russian Squash Federation was admitted to the European and International Federations.
This year the tournament is supported by the International Squash Federation and it is an official event. The prize fund will be $ 12,000. The event will be covered by the all-Russian federal sports TV channel Match TV. The main partner is the British International School. Who if not us can support traditional English sports.
PSA professional games will take place from 16 to 19 October. This is the first international tournament of the PSA Challenger Tour series to be held in Russia after the pandemic. PSA World Tour is the main series of tournaments of the professional squash association. The tour includes over 200 tournaments around the world. About 800 players from over 69 countries are registered in the PSA rankings. The ranking is built similarly to the ATP and WTA in tennis.
From 22 to 24 October players from 11 categories will compete. Among them there are Squash Ambassadors, who are media personalities, opinion leaders, bloggers and actors. The total coverage of their audiences is over 1 million people. Thanks to the activity they make on their social media, squash finds new fans and followers.
Among the participants of MOSCOW SQUASH OPEN 2021 tournament there are the current champions of Russia Vladislav Titov and Alesya Aleshina, as well as the strongest juniors of the country, 7 of which are in the top 10 of the European ranking in their age category.
