Last week our Year 12 and Year 13 students from School 3 enjoyed their educational trip to Tula. In alignment with the IB programme, they had the opportunity to strengthen their CAS Portfolio with Creativity, Active and Service experiences.
The pupils went sightseeing, visited museums, participated in workshops, studied and wrote about it in a diary. Here are some extracts from it:
Day 1
‘We began with a guided tour around the local Kremlin, exploring all of the little historical details and hidden locations. After that we headed straight to the weapons museum, where we were able to time travel through eight centuries of military evolution.
Our next activity was related to the main symbol of Tula which is, of course, gingerbread.
Visiting a workshop and museum, we got to make our own gingerbreads using the
traditional 300 year old recipe.’
Day 2
‘In the morning, we all gathered together for numerous workshops including: how to write a personal statement; how to use references and how to apply to a university in England. Furthermore, we had a virtual meeting with a graduate student, which helped us to understand the whole application process to UCAS.
Year 12 have organised a series of interactive activities, including, Mafia quiz and Treasure
hunting around the hotel’s facilities, featuring a detailed map.
After lunch time, we voted to spend our free time bowling with the teachers. After dinner, Year 13 and Year 12 gathered in the lounge to play Traditional Mafia. Everyone had a splendid time.’
Day 3
‘We went to the conference room to begin the second meeting dedicated to the IB programme. We had an interesting presentation by Year 13 about CAS and IB through the eyes of students.
After the conference presentations, we visited the Samovar museum. There were hundreds of samovars on display in the museum from different centuries with interesting decorations, the history of which was explained to us by a kind guide. Then, we drank tea and ate pancakes in the restaurant while enjoying each other’s company.’
We think the trip turned out to be interesting and very worthwhile!
