Schools 2 and 9 Head Teacher About Education at BIS

      25.08.2021

We asked Daniel Kelly, the head teacher of Schools 2 and 9, to tell us about the education at the British International School.

We asked Daniel Kelly, the head teacher of Schools 2 and 9, to tell us about the education at the British International School. Here you can read the main points, to find out more please watch the video.

‘BIS is an accredited COBIS school. COBIS being the council of British international schools after having successfully undertaken a British school's overseas inspection. These inspections are approved by the UK department for education and help inform parents about the quality of education within the school. We are measured against the same standards that apply to independent schools in England and Wales. As such we belong to a very select group of schools globally. The primary schools were graded as outstanding for every area meaning that the effectiveness of the educational provision is of an excellent standard.

The well-qualified and experienced teaching staff deliver a curriculum which is based on the English national curriculum but, of course, modifications to suit our location in Moscow. Classes are taught exclusively in English and children who are new to English receive extra support in smaller groups using specialist teachers. Our education combines high academic expectations with a broad rich and creative curriculum. There is a comprehensive list of clubs and activities that children can attend after school. They range from extra Russian to fencing, choir practice to drama. Throughout the year we also plan a range of activity days to further enrich our curriculum and extend the pupils at school. These days include Book Week, International Days, Science Day, Art Week and a variety of house competitions where pupils compete in their house teams such as Sports day and our house music events. We also add value to our curriculum by routinely planning in trips each term for every year group across the school.

School 9 has around 35 different nationalities within School 9. We have children from all over the world and, of course, from Russia. Our school is truly an international school and it has a strong family feel to it. Many of our families are at school because parents are on secondment to Moscow or, of course, children have arrived from other British international schools from around the world. Or some families are looking to the future and are looking to invest in their child's education. So that they can have a more international outlook, develop their English and move to a good quality university whether that be in the UK, Europe, America or Russia, having had an education that encourages critical thinking, working as part of a team and using and applying skills.

Now if you are interested in visiting Schools 2 and 9, I would very much welcome you to show you around our outstanding schools.’
