School 9 is a two-form entry school and is located in central south-west Moscow in the Profsoyuznaya district. We educate children, from Reception (4+ years) to Year 6 (11 years), from around 40 different nationalities. The well qualified and experienced teaching staff deliver a curriculum which is based on the English National Curriculum with modifications to suit our location in Moscow.
We are a harmonious community of around 40 different nationalities.
We have an inclusive and holistic educational philosophy, meaning that we want children to develop into well-rounded individuals. We strive to provide pupils with engaging and progressive learning opportunities that stimulate and broaden their knowledge, skills and understanding. We are a school which encourages and nurtures children so that they may lead full, worthwhile lives as confident, balanced members of their communities.
School 9 is a community school – there is a strong ‘family’ feel to us. Staff know the children well and older children are encouraged to care for the younger children.
Our pupils develop and hone their learning skills in a positive atmosphere where independence is instilled from an early age. Children’s self-esteem and sense of self-worth are promoted through a well-developed reward system and frequent opportunities to take responsibility.
Socially, pupils develop by having opportunity to learn about different cultures and get to know different children from around the world as well as take part in regular concerts and performances to develop their creativity and confidence.
Classes are taught exclusively in English, and children new to English receive extra support in smaller groups using specialist teachers. Our education combines high academic expectations with a broad, rich and creative curriculum. There is continuity and progression, challenge and pace.
Furthermore, underpinning our creative curriculum are the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics. These are taught in depth and have a central place in our curriculum delivery by using and applying them through interesting contexts.
A wide variety of extra-curricular activities are also offered. There is a comprehensive list of clubs and activities that children can attend after-school every day of the week, they range from extra-Russian lessons to fencing, choir practice to drama.
School 9 also offers an extended day service where pupils can be supervised until 5pm, thereby offering a degree of flexibility to parents who may require this additional service.
The building has excellent indoor facilities for sports. The sports hall is spacious and well equipped for physical education lessons.
Modern resources are used to aid children’s learning with interactive whiteboards in every classroom. The concert hall is used for many purposes: whole school events, lectures, assemblies and concerts. The school also has a dedicated computing suite, music and art room facilities where children can improve their skills.
